The Most Common Problem Reports

  1. Common Report #1
    "My e-mail doesn't work".

Comment: This is almost always a user problem!
  • Make sure you do not have the "Leave Mail On Server" function checked in your e-mail program. If you leave mail on the mail server, your e-mail box will eventually fill up.
  • Make sure your e-mail box is not full. Every mailbox has a size quota. It's not infinite. When your box is full and you've exceeded your web site disk size quota, YOUR MAIL STOPS WORKING.
  • Make sure you have the correct your e-mail username and password set up in your e-mail program.
  • Make sure you know whether your e-mail handling  method is "Forwarding" to your ISP or a "Pop Box".
  • Make sure your ISP is not blocking, not filtering, or not accepting forwarded e-mail.
  • If you think you have e-mail problems, PLEASE make sure that the problems (like bounced mail) pertain to the email address associated with your domain name. We have no control over your  other email addresses.
  • Before you call us, turn off all spam filters and disconnect spam services like Spam Alert. We cannot effectively troubleshoot if ANY of your mail is being blocked for ANY reason.

  1. Common Report #2
"I can't see my Web site. Your server is down".
Comment: This is almost always a user problem but it may be a problem at your ISP.
    • You most probably did not pay your domain name renewal fee at your registrar.
    • Go to your registrar and check the status of your domain name.
    • If you don't know your registrar, go to http://www.betterwhois.com and check the registration info for your domain name.
    • Part of the registration is the expiration date. If the date is in the past, you didn't renew and your registrar pulled the plug!
    • If the status of your domain name at betterwhois.com is shown as registrar-HOLD, it means your domain name was not renewed, but it it still within the redemption period. You may have to pay extra fees to get your domain off HOLD. This policy varies by registrar.
    • Occasionally we take a site down ourselves for non-payment of hosting fees.
    • If your domain name registration is up-to-date, go to http://www.dnsstuff.com and do a trace route
      a. 3rd column 2nd item from the top
      b. enter your domain name (yourdomain.com) in the box
      c. click on the Tracert button
      d. if the trace completes correctly, the problem is with your ISP
The reason you know it's an ISP problem is that a trace route
from dnsstuff.com does not follow the same route to the server
that your ISP would use to get to the server. Contact your ISP
          to resolve the problem.
