I'm A Web Beginner - Help Me!
If
you are relatively new to the Web, you probably have some
things to learn. We’d like to make your Web experience
easier by giving you information that will in the long run
make your life easier.
It’s very important to get your toolbox in place and your browsing set up properly. If you are an AOL user, you must seriously consider switching to an ISP (Internet Service Provider) that is suitable for conducting business. There are many reasons to switch—the major one is to make you look like a net veteran, not a newbie. If you are still on a dial up connection, you need to switch immediately to cable or DSL.
Learn How to Use E-Mail
When you do business on the Web, your customers and
potential customers will expect you to be very Web literate.
Web customers are not telephone junkies. If you are accustomed
to using the phone as your primary contact medium, you will
need to wean yourself from phone to e-mail. You will have to,
at some point, still talk to people occasionally. However,
e-mailing is what they expect most of the time.
This means picking up your mail several times a day. This
means learning how to send and receive file attachments. This
means learning how to zip and unzip files. If you need help to
learn the basics, hire a teenager. They’re terrific and can
get you going inexpensively.
Learn the Basics of Windows
You must be able to navigate around your computer.
You don’t have to be a wizard, but you do need a minimum
comfort level with technology.
The
